Admissions

NURSERY

If your child is 3 years old, they are eligible to a 15hrs fully funded place within our Nursery. Whilst you can complete an admissions form as soon as your child is 2 years old, we are able to admit your child from the term following their 3rd birthday.

If you would like to register your child for our Nursery please complete a form and return it to us.

Our admissions policy helps us to ensure fair and equitable access to all who apply. Click here to read this policy.

The Nursery session runs from 8.40 a.m. to 11.40 a.m., Monday to Friday.

RECEPTION / YEAR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ; Detailed information can be found in our Admissions Policy which can be found at the bottom of this page.

As a school, we have agreed that all admissions for children aged 4 to 11 years (for all other classes) will be in accordance with Leicester City Council guidelines.

Information can be found on the city website.

Once your child has been allocated a place at Shenton, you will receive a letter. The school will also receive a letter. Once you have received this, please contact us as soon as possible. We will also try and call you. We will invite you for an induction meeting, when we will ensure you have the information you need regarding, what your child needs to wear, what equipment your child will need, as well as explaining any routines and timetables. You will also be given a start date, which is usually 24-48hrs after your induction meeting.

The delay between induction and your child starting, will give you as parents time to organise anything you need to, and for your child's class teacher to ensure everything in class is ready for when your child starts. This includes ensuring all the books your child will need are ready, cloakroom pegs and drawers are labelled and the class are ready to welcome their new friend.

TRANSFER TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

Detailed information can be found on the city website. Applications must be completed online by 31st October.

We also offer parents of Y6 children support to complete applications, if you need it. This is usually early in the Autumn term. A member of the city council will come into school and help you complete the form, they usually speak different languages so we can offer translation support too. You must choose at least 3 different schools, placing the would like most first.

You will then receive a letter from the authority in March stating which school has been selected for your child.

If you are unhappy with the school you have been allocated, the letter will also contain information as to the procedure for appealing against the decision made. If you need any advice please talk to your child’s class teacher.

Year 6 children have several opportunities during the year to visit Secondary Schools. We will share any events or open days with you. In the summer term, beginning of July, all secondary schools invite Y6 children for an induction day.  This a really important day for your child, they will get an idea of where everything is, who their new teachers are going to be and are likely to make some new friends too.

If you need any help with completing the forms or have any questions please contact us.
