RECEPTION / YEAR 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Admissions for children aged 4 to 11 years (for all other classes) is managed by Leicester City Council.

Information can be found on the city website.

Policies explaining how the process works can also be found here.

Once your child has been allocated a place at Shenton, you will receive a letter. The school will also receive a letter. Once you have received this, please contact us as soon as possible. We will try and call you. We will invite you for an induction meeting, your child will also be given a start date which is usually at least 24hrs after your induction. We will ensure you have the information you need regarding, what to wear, what your child will need, as well as explaining any routines and timetables.

The delay between induction and your child starting, will give you as parents time to organise anything you need to, and for your child's class teacher to ensure everything in class is ready for when your child starts.

TRANSFER TO SECONDARY SCHOOL

Detailed information can be found on the city website. Applications must be completed online by 31st October.

We also offer parents of Y6 children support to complete applications, if you need it. This is usually early in the Autumn term. A member of the city council will come into school and help you complete the form, they usually speak different languages so we can offer translation support too. You must choose at least 3 different schools, placing the would like most first.

You will then receive a letter from the authority in March stating which school has been selected for your child.

If you are unhappy with the school you have been allocated, the letter will also contain information as to the procedure for appealing against the decision made. If you need any advice please talk to your child’s class teacher.

Year 6 children have several opportunities during the year to visit Secondary Schools. We will share any events or open days with you. In the summer term, beginning of July, all secondary schools invite Y6 children for an induction day.  This a really important day for your child, they will get an idea of where everything is, who their new teachers are going to be and are likely to make some new friends too.

If you need any help with completing the forms or have any questions please contact us.
