Shenton Primary School

Empowering and nurturing young minds to achieve excellence

April Newsletter

 Dear Parents/Carers,

There have been lots of celebrations over the last couple of weeks which will continue in to the holidays. Some of us celebrated the Hindu festival of Holi on the 13/14 March, and over the last few days many of us have celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. We hope you all had a lovely time with family and friends. Over the holidays some of our families will be celebrating the Christian festival of Easter, and we hope you equally are able to spend time reflecting and celebrating the end of the fasting period of Lent. Whatever religion we follow, the children at Shenton continue to demonstrate the values of respect and compassion to each other on a daily basis, and I hope you feel very proud of them for that.

Please find some information below about upcoming events. On Thursday the photographers are coming, so you might like to check your child looks especially smart! We have also included some information about SMART watches and the use of electric scooters/bikes.

The children are all learning and trying their best in class. I hope you are enjoying the learning snap shots Ms Sidat-Motala has been sharing, as these give you an insight into how the children are learning.

In the mean time, if there is anything you have questions about or would like support with, please come and talk to us. We will always do our best to support you in these challenging times.

With regards,

Ms Gita

e-scooters and e-bikes

Leicestershire Police are cracking down on illegal e-scooters and e-bikes. Riders need to follow strict rules to keep everyone safe. E-bikes must meet specific regulations, such as having a motor under 250 watts and only activating when pedalled. E-scooters, meanwhile, can only be used on private land with permission.

If you are caught riding an illegal vehicle, the police may issue a warning or seize the bike or scooter. This new approach aims to ensure the Leicester and Leicestershire remains safe and enjoyable for everyone.

For full details on the rules and what’s being done to address this issue, view:

Eid Dress up Day

At school, we will be celebrating the festival of Eid on Friday, 11th April.  All children can come in to school dressed in their favourite festive clothes.

Eid, which marks the end of Ramadan is celebrated by Muslim’s all around the world.  During this time families come together to rejoice the completion of this annual act of devotion of fasting. Eid al-Fitr, meaning “the festival of breaking the fast”, signifies the culmination of this month of spiritual reflection and renewal.

We look forward to seeing the children in their lovely colourful outfits.

No Smart watches Analogue Only

Children are not allowed to wear SMART watches in school.

Please ensure your child only wears an analogue watch. This will help them learn how to read them which is a National Curriculum Maths target. A 'Fitbit' or similar gadget that counts steps and tracks health data only is fine. Any smart watches that are able to send or receive calls/messages, or take photographs is a safeguarding risk. Children have a right not to have their photos taken, and these watches potentially threaten each child's right to confidentiality. GDPR regulations also would not permit use of these devices by children on site.

Any child with a Smart watch will be asked to remove it, it will then be returned to you as parents.

Thank you for your support
